Building Windmills

It’s been an adjustment the last week or so dealing with my 6am wake-up call, I’m not gonna lie. Perseverance is required. The bigger picture always has to be my focus. For the record, I’ve mostly been waking up at 6:30. Baby steps. I’ll try for 6:15 for the rest of this week. I didn’t even sleep in over the holiday weekend.  It wasn’t because I couldn’t, it was because I didn’t want to. That’s a huge difference.I am enjoying the benefits of this schedule adjustment. My body feels better. I’ve been doing yoga in the morning and even made it to some actual classes over the weekend.  I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the difference between doing yoga in a group environment versus by myself at home. The energy is amazing. The amount of sweat is unreal!

But why have only one new physical challenge when you can have two?  I’ve also been cutting back on coffee. I strongly believe that if I eat well, exercise and get enough sleep, artificial energy should not be necessary.  I’m even throwing frozen fruit and almond milk in a blender for a quick, healthy smoothie in the morning. It’s not a bad way to start the day.

The other challenge I’m conquering is accomplishing more personal goals either in the morning or after work during the week. I suspect my weekday mornings are full enough just with the yoga, and it’s not like 4am is really an option here. My focus now has to be on more writing and drawing in the evenings. It shouldn’t be too difficult to block off two hours for myself after work, so I’ll start with just one and make a commitment to myself.

When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills. – Chinese proverb
